Core Values & Beliefs

Life is always changing, and we know change is necessary for our continual growth and discipleship. We are convinced how we do church must change with the culture in order to reveal the relevance of God's word. We must always be growing in ministry excellence to be effective in the real world. Methods will constantly change, but the message of Christ stays the same!

God is never boring, and church shouldn't be either! We believe in living a life of wholehearted worship to God in everything we do. We want church to be full of the life, love, and passion of His presence! We want God's passion to drive us to live life His way, everyday! Our worship experiences reflect our passion for God, and His passion for us!

We are a church that desires genuine expressions of faith. We encourage you to find your identity in Christ and strive to serve Him without pretense. We are real people with real needs in a real world. Only a real relationship with Christ will give us the power we need.

Community is about relationships. Life is lived in relationship! We are committed to building healthy and loving relationships at Canvas with God and each other. People matter to God, and they matter to us-believer and unbeliever alike- we love people at Canvas! We are called to live life together in honesty, authenticity, and transparency. Canvas is a community in the community to change the community.

Greatness in life comes through serving and loving others. At Canvas, we value spirituality that is reflected in a desire to serve others. God has shaped each of us in specific ways with natural and supernatural gifts to serve Him and expand His kingdom. We are not spectators-we are servants!

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father except through me." At Canvas, we believe that life is knowing Jesus Christ. We must share Christ with others. We do this by sharing the love of Christ in small and big ways! We'll do anything short of sin to give Christ away to those who are searching, seeking, and asking life questions! Our one desire is to share Christ at all times in all things!

Our Pastor will sit over lunch and explain our beliefs and goals

Canvas Community Church is built upon a core set of essential beliefs. These are the beliefs in which we have unity and on which we base our fundamental decisions.

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God. (Psalm 90:2 ; Matthew 28:19 ; 1 Peter 1:2 ; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King. (Matthew 1:22,23 ; Isaiah 9:6 ; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30 ; Hebrews 4:14-15 ; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ; Romans 1:3-4 ; Acts 1:9-11 ; 1 Timothy 6:14-15 ; Titus 2:13)

The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with the power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts for the benefit of the greater church community when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. We believe in the post salvation experience of Spirit Baptism which is evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit enables us. We believe the church should operate in the fullness of the Spirit as the first century church did in the book of Acts. (Acts 1:2, 4, 8, 10, 19; 2 Corinthians 3:17 ; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17 ; Galatians 5:25; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16 ; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18)

The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs about living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error. (2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13 ; 2 Peter 1:20-21 ; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6 ; Proverbs 30:5)

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". Sin separates us from God and causes many problems in our life (GENESISCHURCH.TV 1:27 ; Psalm 8:3-6 ; Isaiah 53:6a ; Romans 3:23 ; Isaiah 59:1-2)

Salvation is God's free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life, and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. (Romans 6:23 ; Ephesians 2:8-9 ; John 14:6, 1:2 ; Titus 3:5 ; Galatians 3:26 ; Romans 5:1, 10:9-10)

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally exist with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life in Heaven. Heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 14:17 ; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18 ; Revelation 20:15 ; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9) See (Revelation Series)

In addition to Essential Beliefs, we uphold the following:

In Non-Essential Beliefs, we have liberty. Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters...Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls...So then each of us will give an account of himself to God...So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. (Romans 14:1,4,12,22 NIV)

In All our Beliefs, we show the love of God. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:2 NIV)
